Thanks for your reply to my comments re Historic Ships please do not take it that I have given up the Ghost in as much as our mission, that I have not.
Albeit as you say Mark, if we had not been tending to the Medway Queen for the last twenty years, she would be no more. But neither the ship nor us are immortal, and time waits for no man. This is the Ace that the Powers to Be have on their side, and not ours.
My part sadly is now to wield the pen, as to the sword, time has caught up with my ability to physical work on the ship, also for quite a few of the Thursday Gang most being 65 plus.
We have a few younger active members at last, the main one being John Kempton, that is now carrying the Torch for the project. He has work hard for the project even now for the last eighteen years, always there to pick up the jobs that us olddies find hard to do now, and has the right approach, not to much cap in hand.
As you so rightly say we must never give up hope, as slim as it may be. A bit akin to the Dunkirk spirit, when all seemed lost, when at no time did we think we could possibly lose at the end of the day.
We were lucky to receive the lifeline at the last moment when apparently looking at defeat, of the American purse. The biggest Lottery Grant that this old country of ours is likely too ever see again.
But to sum it up at the end of the day, with all the grit, sweat, hardwork and defiance, without money the day could be well lost.
If nothing else Mark, we few can say, we at least tried, which is still scant reward for our labours.
I am sorry to be so pessimistic, but bitter experience in more fields than one has given me this attitude.
All the promises, well done, and admire your spirit, means little at the end of the day to the world of finance.
