Re painting of the Ryde, albeit this may seem a good move, as Mark has stated it would have complications to say the least
Ownership is paramount of this vessel for any foreseeable voluntary work, for many reasons, more so in as much as Health and Safety all needs to be sanction by the owner in writing, and in turn, all to be insured to work on the vessel.
And last, but not least, if all this was to come about look at the possible fate of the Southsea I think that tells you all.
It must be down to the shame of the owner that the Ryde is left to deteriorate. If he had any intention to save this vessel, one would have thought he would have moved a long time ago.
With all the best intentions in the world for the future of the Ryde, we must still look at the legal side of this problem; your head must rule your heart, not the other way round.
Until the owner declares his intentions, sadly we must just watch the vessel rot.
All are free to approach other bodies relevant to Historic Vessel Preservation in the meantime, and voice their opinion on this matter; a good start is your own MP, and the MP relevant to the area of the Ryde. Look on your website, all this info is available.
The more the do take this step must be for the better.
I have been doing this re the Medway Queen for more years than I care to remember, I like to think this has help to bring this project to the notice of others, if not it has not been for the want of trying.
To quote a saying Drops of Water Make the Ocean use you voice.
