A coat of Paint ?

Ok this may sound really stupid, but if the owner agrees, why dont a group of us get some cheap paint and paint the worst affected areas of the hull to try and slow the corrosion. it wont be great but it will help it from becoming too much of an eyesore and hopefully allow the ryde to stay a bit more sound, i dont mean paint the whole hull as that would take loads of paint and time, i just mean the worst affected areas / most critical areas ?
