Can any readers help please ?I am researching this enquiry on behalf of a colleague whos Uncle travelled from Ryde to Portsmouth on or about 17th April 1942 where he recalls seeing a sunken ship, the gent in question was serving on the IoW on returning for leave to the mainland. The only records that I am able to find is of the MV Portsdown hitting a mine in 1941 in the solent.

Does anybody know of another vessel that was mined or bombed around the date mentioed and if so the name please, or could the wreckage be of the Portsdown.
